(Alexandria, MN) -- The Tuesday Cardinal Sports Report includes comments from Steve Kluver, following the Cards' participation in the Section 5A Boys' Swimming and Diving Meet.
The Alexandria Cardinal Boys' Swimming and Diving team placed second in the Section 5A Championship Meet, which concluded Saturday at the University of Minnesota, Morris. Monday evening, the Cardinal Girls' Hockey players and coaches gathered at Arrowwood for their post-season awards banquet and program. Coaches Mark Niska, Molly Arola, and Blair Hovel spoke about the promising developments of the recently completed season. Alexandria's Junior Varsity finished with a 19-2-1 final record, while the Cardinals' Varsity also equaled the win total, compiling a 19-9-1 mark which included a win at the Class A State Tournament.
Varsity players from the Cardinal Girls' Hockey team were honored with these post-season awards:
- Most Valuable Player: Amy Jost
- Unsung Hero: Allison O'Kane
- Most Improved Player: Calley Richardson
- Most Valuable Offensive Player: Mari Wosepka
- Most Valuable Defensive Player: McKenzie Revering
Wosepka was also selected as the team's representative for the Hobey Baker Award. Two special coaches' awards were given: the Courtney Walsh Award recipient this year is Taylor Coker. The Verd Anez Award was presented to Kristin Trosvig. Revering was voted as a Captain for the 2016-17 Alexandria Cardinals. Congratulations to all of the award winners!
Update early Tuesday afternoon, regarding fan buses to the Cardinals' game at MSU, Moorhead Thursday evening....some erroneous information came our way earlier. The correct information is part of the text in the paragraph below, and also on the report included in the audio player.
Fan buses have been set up to transport Cardinal Boys' Basketball fans to the Section 8AAA Championship Game Thursday evening. Sign-up will conclude tomorrow (Wednesday) between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Alexandria Area High School Activities office. The player below includes details on the fan bus sign-up process. The deadline to reserve a spot on a fan bus is 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Forms and fees are being accepted at the Alexandria Area High School Activities office, on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost per person for the fan bus is 10 dollars, but does not include a game ticket to the Cardinals' game with Fergus Falls Thursday night at Minnesota State University, Moorhead. Game tickets can be purchased separately, on site, before the game Thursday evening. Permission forms are available at the Alexandria Area High School and Discovery Middle School offices. Elementary students that wish to ride a fan bus to MSU, Moorhead need to be accompanied by a parent.
