(Alexandria, MN) -- The Alexandria Area High School Activities Department confirmed on Tuesday that one member of the school's Varsity Boys' Soccer team has tested positive for COVID-19, which has paused the Cardinals' season.
The name of the individual is not being announced, due to data privacy involving minors. Alexandria Activities Director Ben Kvidt did note one member of the Varsity Boys' Soccer team received the positive test. That person, along with his teammates will now quarantine for two weeks while practicing distance learning.
Practice status involving the Boys' Soccer JV and B-squad teams is not affected, as the players from those teams practice separately from the Varsity. Each of the teams were separated into pods for practicing prior to the start of the season as a safety protocol, in case a player from one of the teams was to test positive for COVID. Kvidt emphasizes that the Varsity season is the only one in the pause mode at the present time.
The first Boys' Soccer Varsity contest to be postponed was Alexandria's home match with Tech, scheduled on the opening day of school. The Thursday match at Saint Cloud Apollo and next Tuesday's game at Willmar have also been postponed. The September 17th home match with Bemidji will be delayed by one day, to Friday, September 18th. Last night's postponement of the match with Saint Cloud Tech is now rescheduled for Tuesday, October 6th.
Prior to the pause in the schedule due to the positive COVID-19 test, the Cardinals played three matches, tying two of those.
