(undated) -- The Quality Toyota/Alexandria Cardinal "Athlete of the Week" Saturday segments have returned for the 2019-20 school year, with this feature including recent recognition of four seniors from the Alexandria Cardinal Girls' Soccer team.

Seniors Hallee Anderson, Sidney Drew, Summer Gerhardt, and Hadlee Hansen from the Alexandria Cardinal Girls' Soccer team were all honored as Quality Toyota/Cardinal "Athletes of the Week" for the period ending October 11th, 2019. Coach Tom Roos nominated each of the four student-athletes for recognition on KXRA Radio and on VoiceOfAlexandria.com.

KXRA Sports Director Dave McClurg spoke with Summer, Sidney, Hallee, and Hadlee a couple of days before the Cardinals were scheduled to host Bemidji in the fourth round of the Section 8A Tournament. During the conversation, the girls talk about the extended break between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs. They share their thoughts about why the Cardinals were able to win 10 games in the regular season, plus a few memorable moments are talked about, when reflecting on their years of being in the Alexandria Cardinal Girls' Soccer program.

In the period of time that followed the airing of this interview on October 12th, the Cardinals had to wait two extra days before getting involved in the Section 8A Tournament. Alexandria played an intense match against Bemidji in the fourth round of Sections on Monday, October 14th. Though Alexandria fell behind before the game was two minutes old, the Cardinals tied the game late in the first half on a goal by Emma Reineke. No further scoring would take place during the remaining minutes of regulation and overtime. For a second consecutive year, Alexandria was denied advancement in the Section 8A Tournament due to a loss in the penalty kick shootout. Bemidji prevailed in PK's, 4-3 in five rounds after the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Fergus Falls eliminated the Cardinals in PK's during the 2018 Section 8A Tournament.
