The Cardinal Boys' Golf squad was unable to close ground in the Class AAA State Meet Wednesday. With the athletes golfing in windier conditions yesterday, the overall numbers ticked up for many of the golfers. The Cards' second day four-player score of 309 was added to the 302 Tuesday for a combined total of 611. That placed Alexandria fourth out of eight teams. The title came down to a three-way race between the day one leader (Saint Thomas Academy) plus two challengers, Waconia and Edina. The Edina Hornets showed the most consistency over 36 holes at Bunker Hills to capture the Class AAA Championship. The Hornets' combined four-player score of 595 included a 298 yesterday, which was added to the 297 that was golfed on Tuesday. Eighth grader Braeden Sladek was the youngest athlete to finish in the top 15 overall. His two-day score of 149 placed him in a four-way tie for 12th. That tie also included the score from his teammate, graduating senior Noah Boraas.
