The Alexandria Cardinal Girls' Cross Country runners packed up as a group and ran to a fifth consecutive top finish in a meet. Alexandria's team score in the Girls' Varsity meet was 20 to win the John Hermes Invitational in Fergus Falls. Coach Travis Hochhalter shares highlights from Thursday below.
Coach Hochhalter indicates that his Boys' Cross Country runners also showed well at the Pebble Lake Golf Club in Fergus Falls yesterday.
Alexandria's Lions Meet of Champions will take place a week from tomorrow (Saturday, October 5th) at Arrowwood Resort.
The Cardinal Girls' Swimming and Diving athletes hosted Sauk Centre in the Alexandria Homecoming meet at Discovery Middle School. Though the visiting Mainstreeters prevailed, Coach Crysta Krause was pleased with a number of the performances by the Cardinal swimmers.

The Cardinal Volleyball squad earned a second Homecoming win of the week. After prevailing at home against Fergus Falls Tuesday night, Alexandria strolled into ROCORI High School and spoiled the Spartans' Homecoming with a three-set victory. The game scores were 25-12, 25-9, 25-14. Senior Mia McGrane paced Alexandria's attack with 16 kill shots and an ace block. Teammate Erika Roderick dished out 29 assists in the three set sweep. The Cards' passing game, led by sophomore libero Tessa McGrane was solid throughout the match, as ROCORI scored only five of 35 points in the match off its own serve. The win raised the Cardinals' record to 6-2 in the Central Lakes Conference, and 9-9 overall.
The Alexandria Area High School Homecoming Parade commences at 4 p.m. today! The parade will start at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Alexandria, heading east of the grounds on 5th Avenue West past Knute Nelson Memorial Park. Upon arriving in Downtown Alexandria, the parade units will turn right, and head south on Broadway Street from 5th to 15th Avenues. The final leg of the parade route will include 15th Avenue East, before the parade route ends at Jefferson Street, on the north edge of the Alexandria Technical and Community College campus.
Don't miss the Cardinal Athletic Foundation's Homecoming Tailgate Party before the football game Friday night! Tonight, the Cardinal Athletic Foundation will be hosting the annual event will be held in the Nodland Plaza at the Alexandria Area High School stadium. Serving will start after the Homecoming Parade (around 5 PM) and continue until the 7 PM kickoff.
Burgers, brats, and hot dogs will be on the grill. Tickets are seven dollars for adults and five dollars for kids.
Over the last quarter of a century, the Cardinal Athletic Foundation has donated over 300 thousand dollars to benefit Alexandria Cardinal student-athletes. The goal of the foundation is to keep fees down and touch as many sports as possible.
