Aldon Struchen is the Varsity Wrestling Coach at Alexandria Area High School. 

(Alexandria, MN) -- The Monday Cardinal Sports Report features an update from Alexandria Cardinal Wrestling Coach Aldon Struchen, who had a number of his wrestlers competing at Minnewaska Area High School on Saturday.

Saturday's Minnewaska Wrestling Invitational featured nine teams traveling to Minnewaska Area High School to join the host Lakers. Minnewaska Area successfully repeated as champs in the tournament, scoring 232 team points to outpace the field. The Alexandria Cardinals entered eight into the Varsity Tournament, and came away with several of the wrestlers finding a spot on the medal stand at the end of the day. At this point, the annual Big Ole this coming Saturday is slated to have six teams: Milaca, Otter Tail Central, Perham, Quad County, United Clay Becker, and the host Cardinals.

Alexandria's Girls' Hockey team extended its win streak to four games, following a 6-1 win against East Grand Forks at the Runestone Community Center. Kaci Trosvig started the Cardinal scoring in the first period, and later added a pair of assists to complement the goal. In a three-goal middle period for Alexandria, Hanley Block found the back of the net twice. She would also assist on a score for a three-point night. A trio of Cardinals tallied two points apiece: Makenna Aure, Ella Westlund, and Lauren Maras. After starting this current win streak with a 2-0 shutout at Bemidji on January 4th, the Lady Cardinals averaged five goals a contest in posting three successive victories. Alexandria will put an 11-5-3 record on the line tomorrow night (Tuesday), when the Cardinals host Fergus Falls at 7:15. The game will air on KXRA Radio and on VoiceOfAlexandria.com.

The Cardinal Girls' Basketball squad is now riding a four-game win streak of its own. The Lady Cards overwhelmed the Tartan Titans, 72-22 at Alexandria Area High School Friday evening. Senior Mia McGrane stole the ball seven times in the victory, while adding five rebounds and scoring 16 points. Senior teammate Ella Grove chipped in with 21 points, five boards, and five steals. Junior Alayna Strand led the Alexandria rebounding effort with six. Alexandria will host a Varsity doubleheader tomorrow evening. The ladies will take to the floor first, with a 6 p.m. tip-off. The Alexandria Boys' Basketball contest with the Spuds will follow, at approximately 7:45.

The Cardinal Nordic Ski Racing athletes are scheduled to host an invitational tomorrow afternoon at Andes Tower Hills. Competition is slated to start at 2:30.
