(Alexandria, MN) -- Wednesday's Cardinal Sports Report details the three Cardinal head-to-head match-ups Tuesday evening involving the Alexandria and Willmar teams.
At the Alexandria Area High School tennis courts Tuesday, the host Cardinals downed the Willmar Cardinals in Girls' Tennis. Four of the seven points involved convincing wins for Alexandria players, according to Coach Dave Ronning in his summary below.
Alexandria now stands at 6-1 on the year, with the road trip to Bemidji scheduled for tomorrow afternoon (Thursday).
In the Cardinal Girls' Swimming and Diving meet at Willmar High School last night, the visitors from Alexandria prevailed, 103-81. The wrap-up from Alexandria Head Coach Crysta Krause will highlight the Cardinal Sports Report on Thursday. The Bemidji Lumberjacks will travel to Discovery Middle School tomorrow to face the Cardinal swimmers. The meet will start at 6 p.m.
In Girls' Soccer at Viking Bank Field, Alexandria jumped to a three-goal lead in the first 12 minutes of the match before holding off two Willmar rallies in a 5-3 win. Sophomore Morgan Jones scored first and last for Alexandria. Her shot in the third minute past Willmar goalkeeper Ella Swenson gave the host Cardinals a lead that would not be relinquished. The Willmar Cardinals, behind a pair of first half scores off the foot of Ellary Lange, drew to within a goal twice, but could never tie the match. Seniors Allie Randazzo, Molly Panther, and Aubrey Kosters also notched goals for Alexandria, which is now 5-0-1 on the season. All of those outcomes have been against Central Lakes Conference opponents. The Alexandria Cardinals will travel to Bemidji State University for a 7:00 match tomorrow night.
The Thursday Cardinal schedule will also include a home meet at Arrowwood Resort for the Alexandria Cross Country runners. The Cards will host a triangular involving athletes from Bemidji and Willmar, starting at 4 p.m.
