BYRON, Minn. (Sept. 22, 2019) – The Tim Herron Prep Tour (THPT) held its final 2019 stroke play tournament Sept. 22 at Somerby Golf Club, in Byron, Minn. In addition to players competing for the stroke play title, also up for grabs was the season-long player points race, which culminates in the Tim Herron Match Play Championship, Sept. 28-29, at Windsong Farm Golf Club. The THPT and the Player Points race are sponsored by 2nd Swing.

In the boys’ stroke play, Leo Gellert, of North Mankato, finished in first place with rounds of 76-66, for a 2 under par total of 142, followed by Braeden Sladek, of Alexandria (73-70—143), and Logan Hamak, of Sartell (69-75—144).  Gellert's win vaulted him to the top of the boys’ player points race with 421.67 points and a slim margin of victory (1.67 points) over Jack Johnson, of Chaska (420 points). In third was Ben Warian, of Stillwater, with 360 points.  Rankings in the 2nd Swing Player Points standings will determine the seeds in the season finale, the Tim Herron Match Play Championship, Sept. 28-29 at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.

Setting a season’s best score was Shelby Busker, of Detroit Lakes, who fired rounds of 76-69—145 to win the girls’ stroke play. Finishing in second and third place, respectively, was Taya Kwiatkowski, of Gilbert, and Rose Baynes, of Eden Prairie.  Busker, who will be playing golf next year for Indiana-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI), also won the season-long player points competition with 450 points, followed by Kwiatkowski (395 points), and Paige Hillman, of Hudson, Wis., (345 points).
