(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Northern Metal Recycling plans to relocate its shredding operation to Becker after shutting down operations in north Minneapolis as part of a settlement with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.  It was prompted by a whistleblower admitting he was told not to record pollution readings exceeding allowable maximums -- and the M-P-C-A's Don Smith says to avoid similar violations at the new Becker location they'll request more automatic recording devices.  In 2014 the M-P-C-A found, in the air around the north Minneapolis shredder, high levels of pollutants linked to increased risk of heart attack, bronchitis and asthma.
