(Preston, MN) -- A southeastern Minnesota man is charged with animal mistreatment after dead and malnourished horses were found on his farm near Chatfield.

Fillmore County prosecutors say 42-year-old Jeremiah Smaglik is facing eight counts including two felonies. Deputies found two horses dead in late March, several other emaciated horses and a mule that were turned over to the Animal Humane Society of Minnesota. Smaglik is scheduled to make his first court appearance next week.
