(Washington, DC) -- A bill sponsored by Congressman Tom Emmer would provide a tax break to help teachers in the classroom during the COVID pandemic.

The Safe Teachers Assistance and Return to Schools (STARTS) Act increases the educator expense for the purchase of personal protective equipment from 250 to one thousand dollars in 2021 and 2022. Emmer said, "We must support our teachers and their efforts to keep everyone safe. Many educators pay for the supplies and materials their classroom needs, and this problem is only compounded with coronavirus." Minnesota elementary students return to in-person learning next week.
