(Hill City, MN) -- Authorities in Aitkin County arrested eight people who were protesting work on Enbridge Energy’s Line 3 oil pipeline last weekend.
No names have been released. More than 150 people had gathered Saturday to show opposition to work on the replacement pipeline. Deputies say they blocked a road at one location, then traveled to an area near Hill City where they interfered with construction workers. Most of the protesters dispersed when warned by deputies, but seven were charged with trespassing and one was cited and released for failing to leave an unlawful assembly. Enbridge is replacing a pipeline that is more than 50 years old.
