(Alexandria, MN) Three juniors at Alexandria Area High School are hoping people will get out and about in the coming weeks to do business locally. They helped the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce create what's being called the "Spend Douglas Challenge." As part of the campaign known as Pride of the Lakes, the students are targeting some of the more tech-savvy shoppers to support the local community.
Here's how it works:
Individuals are encouraged to do business at a Douglas County businesses, take a photo of themselves doing so, then upload the photo to social media and tag the business, tag Pride of the Lakes (on facebook - @PrideoftheLakesAlexandria / on Twitter @PrideoftheLakes) while adding #SpendDouglas to the post and then challenging three other people to do the same.
There is a carrot for your efforts....each post enters you into a drawing to win $50 in Chamber Bucks each week from now through the end of March. On April 1st the campaign will draw a $500 grand prize winner.
The students, Tyler Bright, Colin Reilly and Hattie Galloway say that people should visit Douglas County businesses often and are able to enter to win as many times as they wish.
Tyler, Colin and Chamber Director Tara Bitzan explained more of the details while on the February 15th Openline Program on KXRA with Joe Korkowski and Patty Wicken. (AUDIO BELOW)
