(Alexandria, MN) Current KXRA-AM program director and on-air personality Mark Anthony has been named as the News Director for Leighton Broadcasting's Alexandria stations at KXRA-AM, KX92, Z99 and their website www.voiceofalexandria.com. Mark will move into the role currently held by Joe Korkowski. Korkowski has accepted the Executive Director position at Explore Alexandria Tourism, effective January 3rd. While Korkowski has been employed at KXRA Radio since 2002, he was news director over the past three years, following Dennis Anhalt's retirement. Station manager Brett Paradis says of the move, "Joe Korkowski is a truly remarkable fellow, and I well remember the day nearly 20 years ago when he joined our team! As I think back over all of that time, I realize that Joe has been much more than just a trusted and valuable employee. He has become a great friend and ally in so many ways. Although it is hard to see him moving on, it is also a joy to know that he will continue to benefit the community at large in his new position at Alexandria Tourism. All of us at Leighton Broadcasting wish Joe the best. He knows that he is always welcome here!"
Joe says, "It has been a pleasure working for both Paradis Broadcasting and now Leighton Broadcasting over these many years. With Brett at the helm I've really felt a part of a team. It's like family. Although I am excited to be able to be a part of the tourism industry in Alexandria, I will miss those interactions with the staff and the many listeners. I'll go from being part of the Voice of Alexandria to being the voice for Alexandria."
Brett says, "As to Mark Anthony, we are blessed to have someone on our team who is ready to step up and fill those big shoes in our news department! Mark has a wealth of broadcast and news experience behind him, and with his deep ties to Leighton Broadcasting and to the Alexandria area, he is the perfect choice to become our next news director. With Mark at the helm, we know that local news excellence will continue to be our focus. We are excited about the future, and we are pleased to be able to spend the rest of this year working with both Mark & Joe."
Mark added that, "As Brett said those shoes will be hard to fill, but I'm looking forward to keeping up the longstanding tradition of news excellence that Joe and Dennis provided."
Mark knew at a young age he wanted to work in radio. In ninth grade, he did a job shadow at his hometown radio station in Willmar and was hooked. He would go on to Minnesota State University—Moorhead to major in journalism where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications—Print Journalism. He has been a life-long learner and has also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Communications from Charter Oak State College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. He also holds Master’s degrees in World War II Studies, Business Management, Public Administration/Political Science, and European History.
Over the years, Mark has worked radio and TV from Alexandria, Willmar, Minneapolis, Fargo, Grand Forks, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, St. Cloud and Joplin. He was the chief meteorologist at KSAX-TV for years until it was shut down, and he is currently working news and weather at Kool-TV in Alexandria where he helped launched the regional network.
Mark is married to Tracey and they have three children; Rachel, Zach, and Tony along with a black lab by the name of Maggie.
Mark and Tracey are active in their church at New Life Christian Church in Alexandria. He also enjoys playing guitar, writing songs, spending time with family, and visiting with people in the Alexandria Lakes Area.
