(Alexandria, MN) On Monday the Outreach Food Shelf was the seen of another huge special distribution of food. It was part of some commodities that were made available through their food bank in conjunction with the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). Director of the Outreach Food Shelf, Vicki Bump says "We had an excellent turnout and 330 boxes were distributed. People are very grateful and we gave out those boxes within an hour, so the line goes very fast. We are expecting another delivery on the 24th of August."
The latest delivery, Monday July 27th, included protein boxes. Vehicles lined up for blocks to receive the packages that included 5 lbs of hots dogs, 5 lbs of chicken patties and a pound of bacon. Bump added it's "a good thing and you don't have to sign up, you just have to show up."
During the tentative August distribution Bump is hopeful that the food will include not only a protein box, but also a produce box and a dairy box. She is hoping to receive several hundred of those boxes for distribution on a first come, first served basis.
Bump says that everyone is welcome and no sign up is required. She continues that anyone who would like to supplement their grocery budget is encouraged to come. A similar distribution took place on June 29th.
