Emergency Summer Weather Kits

Jace, Quinn and Peyton Witt show how easy it is to stock an emergency kit.

(Douglas County, MN) Tornadoes, and severe storms with high winds, hail and heavy rain, can seem to happen quickly. But usually there is a weather watch and warning in place before the storm hits. Being prepared for severe weather during the spring, summer and fall months, requires us to stay informed. Douglas County has a notification system called Code Red. The National Weather Service will notify those signed up when a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in Douglas County. We encourage all residents and visitors to have an emergency plan in place. Where will you take shelter in your home, your campsite, your business or when you're outside enjoying the many activities available in our area. Thinking ahead will allow you to be safe sooner. Also, stock up your emergency supply kit. Everyone should have enough water and food to survive for three days following a damaging severe weather event. We also recommend having a portable radio, whistle, first aid kit, tools to turn off utilities and a cell phone charger in your emergency kit.
