(Alexandria, MN) The scenario was set, the call was made and the first responders were under the watchful eyes of their supervisors. Douglas County's Emergency Management team organized a mock chemical accident Monday night. 3M of Alexandria helped provide the location, high school students and community members acted as victims and onlookers, and the first reponders did the rest. The scenario surrounded a number of teenagers who had climbed a fence on the 3M property and had somehow managed to spill some barrels filled with a chemical, thus contaminating themselves. Responding to the scene were Alexandria Police officers and Fire fighters, along with North Ambulance EMT's. The mock victims were taken to Alomere Health to help them work on their emergency response to a chemical accident. The drill also was helpful to 3M employees.
Douglas County Emergency Management Director Julie Anderson talks about the importance of the training.
