(Alexandria, MN) After several hours Wednesday, around 5:30pm the jury gave their verdict in the case of 34 year old Jacob Larson. The Kensington man was found guilty of four of the six charges presented against him in connection to the 2018 death of Steven (Beaver) Hlinsky. Larson was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter, aiding and abetting first degree manslaughter, as well as fifth-degree assault and fifth-degree aiding and abetting assault. The jury found Larson not-guilty of second-degree murder and second-degree aiding and abetting murder.
Prosecuting the case was Douglas County Attorney Chad Larson. He said in a written statement, "This was a very difficult case, perhaps the most difficult case that I have taken to a jury. I’m not able to speculate as to why or how the jury reached this particular verdict, but, I have to respect it. I know that nothing will bring back Mr. Hlinsky, but it is my sincerest hope that it is a step forward for the Hlinsky family in finding some peace and closure amidst this tragedy."
Jacob Larson was taken into custody. No sentencing date has been set as of yet.
