(Hoffman, MN) Friends tried desperately to rescue a 22 year old Hoffman man early Saturday morning after he and his snowmobile went through the ice north of Hoffman. The Grant County Sheriff's Office says Benjamin Anderson of Hoffman went through the ice on Olson Lake sometime around 1:30a.m. Law Enforcement received the 9-1-1 call at 1:41am. reporting that an individual had fallen through the ice while snowmobiling in Elk Lake Township. Hoffman First Responders and Ambulance responded to the scene. When deputies arrived, Anderson was already out of the water and CPR was in progress. He was taken to Alomere Health in Alexandria, then transported by air flight to Sanford Hospital in Fargo where he was later pronounced deceased. The accident is still being investigated.
On Facebook a family member thanked the quick thinking friends of Benjamin who she said "should be commended for your quick response, willingness and interventions performed." She continued saying, "Not just any 20-21-22 year old would perform those heroic actions to try save a friend."
Funeral arrangements will be next Sunday in Hoffman at Messiah Lutheran Church at 2:00pm.
