Pope County Sheriff's Office

On Friday November 13, 2015 at approximately 4:54 PM, the Pope County Sheriff’s Office responded to Rolling Forks Township for a report of a missing deer hunter. A search was conducted by Deputies and MN Conservation Officers on and around Anderson Lake. Anderson Lake is about nine miles south of Glenwood.

A canoe was discovered in approximately ten feet of water. Pope County Sheriff Tim Riley says it's believed that this canoe was used by the missing man. The search was ceased at approximately 10:30 PM and resumed again at 7:30 am Saturday morning. Pope County and Douglas County divers ultimately recovered the body of an man later identified as 40-year-old Jon Donald Kloos of Rural Glenwood. An Autopsy is being conducted by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office. The preliminary investigation revealed that Kloos was most likely traveling in the canoe to deer hunt on a nearby island on Anderson Lake. The official cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner.
