(Alexandria, MN) Sixty-one students in grades 1-5 participated in the Elementary Spelling Bee held January 24 at Woodland Elementary School.     

The top scoring students during the written portion of the competition advanced to the oral round.  

They were:    

1st Grade:  Hadley Flatt (Lincoln), Brayden Faith (Voyager), & Jaeger Running (Woodland)    

2nd Grade:  PJ Vanderheiden (Voyager), Joni Vanderheiden (Voyager), & Dominik Meyer (Voyager)    

3rd Grade:  Adley Lorentz (Voyager), Hadley Ellingson (Woodland), & Cael Stumvoll (Lincoln)    

4th Grade:  Nils Stadsklev (Garfield), Lucas Korman (Miltona), Brennan Lepisto (Lincoln), & Aaron Lenarz (Woodland)    

5th Grade:  Hannah Hoff (Voyager), Thomas Dutcher (Garfield), Alex Rodriguez (Woodland), Joshua Makalinao (Woodland), & Brooke James (Lincoln)     

Grade-level champions for the spelling bee and the word they spelled correctly to win the competition were:    Jaeger Running, 1st grade, from Woodland – bubbly  (Runner up – Hadley Flatt from Lincoln)    

PJ Vanderheiden, 2nd grade, from Voyager – length  (Runner up – Joni Vanderheiden from Voyager)    

Adley Lorentz, 3rd grade, from Voyager – appearance  (Runner up – Hadley Ellingson from Woodland)    

Aaron Lenarz, 4th grade, from Woodland – awkward  (Runner up – Nils Stadsklev from Garfield)    

Hannah Hoff, 5th grade, from Voyager – council  (Runner up – Alex Rodriguez from Woodland)
