(Alexandria, MN) For 76 year old Beverly Toso her car crash Saturday night was a case of bad news, good news. At 9:17pm Saturday night the Douglas County Sheriff's Office assisted the MN State Patrol with a motor vehicle accident in the construction area on I-94. It was reported that Toso's vehicle was traveling east bound in the west bound lane in the construction area. The Sheriff's Office says she drove off the bridge which is currently being replaced and ended up in the channel of Lake Latoka.
Deputy Ben Jarvi, who was close to the scene, arrived and found the car mostly submurged in the water. Deputy Jarvi tied a rope around his waist and entered the water. He found Toso still in the vehicle with approximately 4 inches of air between the water and roof of the vehicle. Deputy Jarvi was able to open the door and pull Toso from the vehicle. Kenneth Fletcher, who had made the 9-1-1 call, pulled both Deputy Jarvi and Toso to shore. Toso was transported to Alomere Health by North Ambulance.
