(Glenwood, MN) -- Shortly after 9:00 on the morning of July 2nd, 2020, the Pope County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a body in the water near the shore on Shady Oaks Road in the area of Glenwood Township.
The Pope County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Glenwood Police Department and Glacial Ridge Ambulance responded, where they discovered the body of 75-year-old David Wedum of Glenwood. His pontoon was discovered approximately 20 feet from his dock with the pontoon legs partially deployed and side door open.
An investigation into the actual cause of the death is currently underway by the Pope County Sheriff’s Office, Pope County Coroner and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to his obituary on the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home web site, David Wedum owned the Glenwood Lumber Company for more than a quarter of a century, selling the family-owned business in 2005. He is survived by his son, John and daughter, Whitney along with two grandchildren, plus several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Wedum's wife, Sherry passed away in February, 2019. David Wedum's Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood at 2:00 Sunday afternoon.
