(Alexandria, MN) A man staying at an Alexandria hotel is in custody after allegedly leading police on a chase through town. The man, 35 year old Michael Timothy Reiten, was staying at the Days Inn. Authorities say in the early morning hours of Wednesday December 23, 2015, the Alexandria Police Department, assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol, arrested Reiten in connection to an attempted Swift County Robbery, a Stearns County Stolen vehicle, and a Douglas County Warrant.
Prior to being taken into custody Police say Reiten led officers on a vehicle pursuit from 10th Avenue East crossing and changing directions on multiple different streets and avenues before ending on 22nd Avenue. Police say Reiten brandished a black handgun, pointing it toward officers on several occasion during the vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended near 22nd Ave, where Reiten’s vehicle was disabled and he fled on foot. Reiten was apprehended in the median of Hwy 29 South by the Sheriff’s K9, allowing officers to secure Reiten without further incident. There was extensive damage to Alexandria Police Department Police car and the vehicle that Reiten was driving. Reiten was treated and released from the hospital for the injuries incurred from the K-9 apprehension. No officers were injured during this incident.
Reiten remains in custody awaiting formal charges.
