Alexandria Public Schools is pleased to announce that Scott Dahlin will be joining the district leadership team as Transportation Supervisor. School Board approval is expected at the November 19 regular meeting. Dahlin will begin his duties on November 20.

Dahlin brings more than 30 years of experience as a transportation supervisor in the Saint Cloud Public School system. Throughout his career, he has displayed a vast knowledge of school district transportation operations to maximize student safety, department efficiencies, and ensure compliance with transportation policies and regulations.

He joins the district at an exciting time with the rollout of Phase II of the district’s transportation improvement plan focused on increasing student safety. In Phase II, each bus driver has a tablet and card reader installed on the bus. Students riding the bus will scan their student ID card with barcode, or key in a 4-digit PIN number, when boarding/leaving the school bus. This will ensure an accurate manifest of student riders to ensure they are on the correct bus and they are getting on/off the bus at the right stop. The tablets will also be equipped with GPS to provide clear route directions and eliminate the need for paper route sheets. GPS tracking also provides parents with their child’s real-time bus location and arrival information.

Bus drivers were recently trained and students will practice scanning on/off through the end of the month. This pilot period will allow the district to test the technology and correct any routing inconsistencies. The system is expected to be fully active in early December.
