Western Minnesota Working On Plan To Add Beds For Coronavirus Patients

(Benson, MN)  --  Three counties in western Minnesota are considering a plan to turn part of a former privately-owned prison into a medical center for coronavirus patients.  Hospital officials in Chippewa, Lac qui Parie and Swift counties have contacted prison owner CoreCivic about the idea.  The company has indicated it is willing to make the space available for no charge.  The Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton has been vacant for 10 years.  It has space for 16 hundred beds, though the plan would start with just 11 rooms.
