(Alexandria, MN) The Alexandria Public Schools administration and school board have updated the district's learning model.
After consultation with the district leadership team and the COVID Advisory Team on Wednesday December 2nd, the next steps for Alexandria Public Schools are listed below.
Superintendent Rick Sansted says in the interest of prioritizing the needs of our youngest learners and planning for a safe return to school for all students, please see the details below regarding our phased in return to school. Considerations for the decision included: the needs of our youngest students, the ability to staff given county case rates and the impact of positive cases and quarantine on our staff.
- Grades PreK through grade 2 will return to in person learning on Wednesday, December 9th.
Grades 3-12 will continue in distance learning through Friday, January 8th. This timeline includes adequate time following the holiday break.
- Grade 3-5 will return full in person learning on Monday, January 11th.
- Grades 6-12 will return to a hybrid model (every other day) on Monday, January 11th.
Sansted says we will need to adjust current practices related to meal delivery and transportation due to the change in models for our youngest learners. He adds that they will send additional communication later this week.
Sansted talked with VOA's Joe Korkowski about these decisions (AUDIO BELOW):
