(Alexandria MN) -- The Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has announced the selection of Tara Bitzan to serve as the Chamber’s next Executive Director.
Bitzan is a life-long resident of Douglas County. She graduated from Moorhead State University with degrees in Mass Communications and English and a minor in Scandinavian Studies. She is a graduate of the Leadership Alexandria Program, Bob Pike Facilitation Course, Servant Leadership Roundtable I and II, Blandin Publishers and Editor’s Leadership Program and Forum Forward Leadership Program.
She has served as a community journalist with the Echo Press newspaper in Alexandria for the past 25 years, most recently in the role of editor, and has also performed bookkeeping and human resource duties for her husband’s partnership, Bitzan Ohren Masonry.
She has been active with the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, Lakes Area Professional Women, Alexandria Public Schools, Calvary Lutheran Church, Habitat for Humanity and the Alexandria Literacy Project, among others.
“For the past 25 years I have enjoyed the opportunity to shine a spotlight on my home-town community through my role as a community journalist,” Bitzan said. “I am now excited to move into this new role, where I can continue working with others to make this a great place to live, work, play and prosper, and continue shining that spotlight on this incredible community.”
Bitzan will replace Coni McKay, who has served as director of the chamber for the past 19 years. McKay will be retiring at the end of June.
