AAHS Seniors Put YEAR ONE in the Books.

(Alexandria, MN) After thousands of hours enrolled at District 206, the class of 2015 celebrated their new freedom Friday afternoon.  At 3:00pm the first graduating class from Alexandria Area High School gathered outside the front doors, ready to countdown their last moments of high school.

When Erica Hanson got a phone call that she was going to get a car from the Douglas County Car Care Program, she said, “I can’t believe it, because I just accepted a job at Alexandria Industries.  I didn’t know how I was going to get there and back.  I didn’t know how I was going to get my three kids to and from day care.”  Erica’s job was to start the next day and she was ecstatic.

Henry’s Foods breaks ground on expansion

(Alexandria MN) -- Tuesday Morning, May 26th, Henry’s Foods in Alexandria broke ground on an expansion to their current facility on McKay Ave. The expansion will bring 36,000 square feet of additional freezer space to Henry’s and increase the picking space as well as a refrigerated loading space. United Methodist Church of Alexandria Celebrating May Pole Day

Every May Day, or May 1st, for quite a long time, United Methodist Church of Alexandria has held traditional May Pole Celebration, including lifting of the May Pole itself and celebrating and dancing around it. This year, the church decided to go against the usual pancake breakfast and start a new tradition with a Spring Salad Luncheon to accommodate the occasion. Carol Meyer says "We hope the change to a luncheon is the first of many to come".

(Alexandria, MN)  18 local restaurants treated the public to samples Thursday night.  The first Douglas County Car Care Program's "Taste of Douglas County" brought in hundreds of people to the Broadway Ballroom.  The fundraiser featured a wide variety of menu samples; everything from prime rib, sushi, and honey stung shrimp to Swedish meatballs, deep-fried green beans and chicken gizzards.  Attendees paid to get into the event and then were allowed to sample any or all of the menu choices.

DNR Backs Away From Filing Suit Against City Of Detroit Lakes

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources(DNR) has backed away from its threat to file a lawsuit against the city of Detroit Lakes for approving a new hotel, restaurant and condominium complex near the lake.  In a letter to Detroit Lakes Mayor Matt Brenk, DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr says he's disappointed in the city's position, but says he believes it's in the best interest to avoid litigation. Landwehr also says he wants to explore "constructive solutions" to the issue and avoid "future recurrences."  The DNR is concerned about the project's environmental impacts. Earlier this month, the Detroit Lakes City Council approved the nearly $12 million project over the objections of some residents.

ALP Update Light Poles on Broadway

Roof Collapse At Ottertail Resort

Thumper Pond Resort in Ottertail, Minnesota is closed for the day after a partial roof collapse. No one was hurt.  The collapse happened just before midnight in the water park area.  General Manager Brad Stevens says about 25 to 30 guests at the resort were relocated to another hotel in the area as a precaution.  He says the wood truss structure that houses the waterpark is eight years old.  He says the resort in Ottertail will be closed today(wed) while structural engineers examine the 12,000-square-foot building.  An investigation is underway to try to figure out what led to the collapse.
